This is what God asks of you:
to love tenderly

act justly

and to walk humbly with your God

Personal Development & Self Discipline

A Catholic Christian is striving to become a fully alive human person and is self-disciplined - or at least trying their best to go in that direction.

Each day affords opportunities for prayer and meditation, often enriched by the daily Mass Readings.

Helped and supported by the Holy Spirit a Catholic Christian aims to grow in:

  • Wisdom - to judge as God does
  • Understanding and insight
  • Counsel and right judgement
  • Fortitutde - the strength to do what is right
  • Knowledge - to see things as they are
  • Piety - reverence, especially for all of God's creation
  • Wonder and awe at the goodness and greatness of God

In the Church we celebrate the development of these in the Sacrament of Confirmation.

A Catholic Christian actively does their best

to grow in

  • Love - willing the good of the other person;

and being

  • Joyful - seeing the best in others
  • Peaceable
  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Good
  • Long suffering and forebearing
  • Mild
  • Faithful
  • Modest
  • Self- disciplined
  • Honourable

These twelve virtues are known in the Church as the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. They do not just happen but come about through effort and will on the part of the individual, who is supported and helped by other members of the community who are walking a similar path.
