Message of WE ARE CHURCH
to the 9th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Porto Alegre, Brazil
14 – 23 February 2006

February 12th, 2006

Dear brothers and sisters,

The International Movement WE ARE CHURCH (IMWAC) — a world-wide grassroots movement working for reforms in the Roman Catholic Church — sends their best wishes for your so important General Assembly. WE ARE CHURCH has always emphasised ecumenism in its own Gospel-based activities. We are convinced that our Churches can only preach the Lord's Word if they don't live in a "magnificent seclusion".
As WE ARE CHURCH assured Konrad Raiser, the predecessor of the present General Secretary Samuel Kobia, at a meeting in 1998 the reform-orientated Church leaders can be certain of a large majority of Christians supporting them.

You're going to meet in Brazil, a symbol country of the Southern hemisphere. That's why complex and painful troubles of North-South relations will surely take centre stage in your care and in Porto Alegre's works. All efforts have to be made inside our Churches to work towards peace and justice.

The Holy Spirit may enlighten and lead you. We are standing ecumenically behind you as brothers and sisters.
